Questions about entering a quilt:

  • What quilts are able to be entered into the 2008 show?
All current members of the DMAQG can enter their quilts in this year's show with these restrictions:
*the entry must have been made by a DMAQG member (or could be completed by a member from a top or blocks made by someone else -- e.g., vintage blocks)
*the entry must not have been displayed in a previous DMAQG show (exception being the special exhibit of 2007 President's Challenge quilts that were just in the Nashville show)

*the entry must not have been entered in the AQS Quilt Expo - Des Moines

All quilts entered in the 2008 DMAQG Quilt Show must have a 4 inch sleeve on the back.

  • Do all quilts need to be entered to be shown at the show?
    Yes, with the following exceptions:
*Little Quilts for the silent auction should not be entered. Please clearly mark these items as "silent auction". (These Quilts will not need a sleeve on the back)
*Treasured Quilts for the special display should not be entered. A chairperson will collect these quilts separately.
*Quilts for the Quilt Turning should not be entered. A chairperson will collect these quilts separately.
*Charity Quilts for donation to the guild can be given to the Community Service chair at any time. If you want them shown with their category, and donated later, you may register these quilts.
***All other quilts that are not entered into the show will not be hung.***

  • Miniature:  any quilt with a circumference of 80” or less that reflects a true proportionately-reduced scale version of a large quilt.  It may be pieced or appliquéd.

  • Pictorial:  any quilt that depicts a person, place, thing or scene in a realistic or abstract manner.  It may include piecing, any type of appliqué or embellishment, as well as any abstract quilting or techniques not included in any other category.  All work may be done by hand or by machine.

  • Traditional:  any quilt that is predominantly pieced and based on traditionally style patterns and sets.  All work may be done by hand or machine.

  • Non-Traditional:  any quilt that is constructed with non-traditional techniques.  It may include mixed techniques as long as one of the techniques is non-traditional (fused or raw edge appliqué, painting embellishment or other surface design elements).  All work may be done by hand or machine.

  • Appliqué:  any quilt using appliqué as the predominant construction technique.  It may be hand or machine appliquéd.

  • Friendship:  multiple quilt entries using similar theme, pattern or design and made by members of a group as a group project.  Quilts entered in the Friendship category will not be judged but will be hung together.

  • One-person quilt:  any quilt completely constructed by only one person.  All work may be done by hand or machine.

  • Two or more-person quilt:  any quilt that two or more people worked on, in any way, during the construction, quilting or finishing.  This includes quilting done for hire.  All work may be done by hand or by machine.

Note:  Quilts that are round, rectangular, oval or other unusual shape should use a circumference or perimeter measurement and be entered in the most applicable size category.

The entry deadline of July 15, 2008 will be strictly enforced. If entries are not received by this date, the quilt will not be displayed. The same is true for judging fees. If you want your quilt(s) to be judged, the $5 per quilt fee must also be received by this date in order to be judged

I can't enter fractions for the size. What do I do?
Just round up to the nearest inch. The size is used to help determine how much space we'll need to hang the show.
