2019 DMAQG President’s Challenge
“Complementary Color Challenge”
Here’s how it works:
Choose your favorite color then chose its complement. You can only use these 2 colors. Then the challenge is to use its proportions in relation to light and dark for each color in your quilt.
Purple = 3/4 and its complement Yellow = 1/4
Blue = 2/3 and its complement Orange = 1/3
Red = 1/2 and its complement Green = 1/2
Each proportion = 1 in relation to its light and dark color proportions in our challenge.
(You may use different purples or yellows or prints but it’s best to keep them in the same warm or cool tones.) You can use a red/orange or a blue/green for example, just be sure to use its direct complement on the color wheel.
- The size must be 32″ wide x 32″ tall.
- You can use your favorite method such as piecing, applique (machine or needle turn) or paper piecing.
- You can have a background but it must be neutral OR you can have no background and use both colors for the whole wall-hanging.
- All work is to be done by one person
Quilts must be finished (quilted and bound) for hanging at the 2019 December Tea. Guild members will vote for the top eight to be entered into the AQS Ultimate Guild Challenge. Voting results will be posted in the January 2019 Newsletter.
